the shooster goes doo doo !

Well, it's official. Work is no fun. I've been doing way too much of it this week...and my favorite boss (my dad) has been even busier and more stressed out than I have. Thanks to a wonderful division (insert sarcasm here) of our government called the Department of Housing and Urban Development (HUD), we have been slammed with deadlines. blech..... anyway, all that boring junk is to express why I have been absent from my blogging chair.

But I'm back with lots of news to report about Audrey. She shocked us the other night with her knowledge of her ABC's. Let me preface this by saying that I have no earthly idea why I was shocked... she begs to do her ABC's on the computer. Honestly I don't try to "teach" her things all the time...I really believe that kids need to have lots of time to play and explore their imagination without being "taught" constantly BUT there is this really great website (www.starfall.com) that someone showed me and I thought it was stupid at first...until I realized that I didn't know what I was doing. After I figured it out, it became one our favorite things to do. Audrey knocks on the door to the office now and asks to do her ABC's (AC's in audrey language) I can't even begin to explain the website...just check out the learn your ABC's part...then you'll understand. (they need to be paying me for advertising...)

Anyway, we were having family time in the bathroom the other night while Audrey was taking her bath. She was splashing around and having a big time and Ryan and I were talking about our day. Well, she has these foam letters that up until now have just floated about in the water and she'd toss them around or stick them to the wall...but that night she just started picking them up, naming them and then putting them in a pile. We were having so much fun... I think my favorite is how she says the letter "X" ... she says "etts" and the same with the number "6" she says "sits" - so cute. We do have one small kink to work out... when we hold up the number 8, she says the "B word." No joke. Everytime. We hold it up, she says "&*%$#" and then we carefully and slowly say "eight" and then she repeats "eight." We'll get it right eventually...let's just hope her preschool teacher doesn't wear a sweatshirt with the number 8 on the front. ha ha!

I'm sure it's just a sound she associates with that number for some reason, but its truly hilarious... especially if you know us and know we don't use words like that :)

She has also started voluntarily talking to other people occasionally. She will say "Hi Audrey." At first I was wondering why she was calling everyone else Audrey...I thought maybe she was trying to say "hi, I'm audrey" but then it hit me.... Whenever we see someone, I always tell her to "say Hi, Audrey" so now she does just that. she says "hi Audrey" to everyone.

Let's see...what else? We are taking walks a lot... she loves to be outside and the cooler weather is great! When we're inside she is usually pushing her shopping cart or her vacuum around - and when she's still she begs for her puzzles. I keep them on a high shelf in her toy closet which helps maintain the toy chaos. I need to make a video of her doing the sea creatures puzzle...I still think it is so cute to watch her talk about crabs (cab) and shrimp (simp).

Oh yeah... and here are the latest animals and their sounds at our house:

(Do these in an adorable high squeaky voice for full effect)

gog - ar, ar
shooster - doo, doo
cat - mow (rhymes with how)
cooooow - moooooooo
hurse - da-a-a-a-a
bird - cack, cack (this is actually a duck but she insists on calling it a bird)
peeg - (can't write this noise...she can almost really snort)

Ok... I have so much more but it's time to get off the computer and go talk to Ryan... YAY! he's home!
